What is a virtual number?
This term is used in many different scenarios and it can be hard to know what you need and what you are signing up to. A virtual number is typically considered as a “landline” telephone number that rings “in the cloud”. However, in the cloud simply means calls route over the internet rather than via wires like traditional phone lines do.
For Cloud9, a virtual number is a “landline” number with a local area code that is simply routed to an existing number such as your mobile phone.
For the wider community it could also refer to a Voice over IP (VoIP) phone whereby calls are answered via a handset, pc/desktop client or smart phone app. This option will allow you to also make outbound calls from your business number. If this is a key feature please review our VoIP Cloud Telephony information here.
We also recommend you head to our VoIP Cloud Telephony page if you have an existing system or are looking for a new number to ring to a team of people either remotely, in the office or a combination of both.
If you simply need a telephone number to route to an existing land line or your mobile phone we have all the information you need below.
