A Non Geographic Number is a telephone number that is not linked to a specific area. A commonly recognised example of an NGN is an 0800 number, it is pretty common knowledge that this is free to call.

The most typical prefixes in use today are:

  • 0800 and now 0300 for free phone numbers. 0300 numbers are attractive as they are also free to dial from mobile phones – 03** numbers typically included in free call bundles.
  • 033 numbers are charged to customers a national call rate and again, typically included in free call bundles.
  • 030 numbers are specifically designed for not-for-profit organisations to offer a single point of contact nationally.

Is a Non Geographic Number (NGN) better than a local virtual number?
